SCT Hike in Carbonated Drinks According to the Official Gazette, the Government raised special consumption rate on carbonated drinks to 35% from 25% (was raised as early as last year). The SCT proceeds from carbonated drinks only accounted for 0.12% of total Central Govt’ revenues in 2019. Yet, this should be seen as a signal for future budget boosting measures given prospects of wider fiscal deficits (see update on Treasury finances below). In addition, Meanwhile, the weight of the item in the CPI basket is a mere 0.18%, hence the inflationary effects would be minimal.
