(-) Reportedly, contractors consider to knock off work if the rebar prices are not down / Potentially Negative for Kardemir Recall that Builder Confederation had considered to call knock off work if the rebar prices are not down by the end of May. Then, Import tax on rebar was cut from 30% to 10%.Recently, it is reported that contractors are still uncomfortable with the recent price levels and considers to knock off work if the rebar prices are not down again. Based on the statements by the authorities, cut in VAT has not been considered by the government. Correspondingly, only possibilities would be 1) another cut in import tax or 2) limitation on rebar exports that both alternatives suggest a downward correction in the prices due to oversupply situation. This should be negative for Kardemir as the company is currently enjoying from high rebar prices. Also note that Erdemir has also long steel production capacity but as it has a chance to covert its production into flat steel depending on the profitable opportunities, its impact on Erdemir should be muted.

Buna paralel fiyatlarda düşüş olmazsa tekrar iş bırakma eylemine gidebileceklerini açıkladı. Mayıs ayında yapılan iş bırakma eylemi açıklamasının ardından hükümet ithalat vergisini %30’dan %10’a indirmişti. Tekrar bir adım atılacak olursa, bunun bir vergi indirimi daha veya ihracata sınırlama gibi bir önlem olacağını düşünüyoruz. Her iki durumda da, inşaat demiri fiyatlarında aşağı yönlü bir düzeltme beklenebilir. Bu da yüksek inşaat demiri fiyatlarından olumlu faydalanan Kardemir için negatif olabilir.
